Couch Oil and Gas
Cutting Edge Exploration
Couch Oil and Gas, a privately owned, independent oil and gas operator headquartered in the heart of energy country – Irving Texas – is leading the way toward America’s energy independence using cutting edge exploration technology at each stage of discovery, prospect generation, drilling location identification, and completion. Not satisfied to employ singular methods Couch utilizes as many as 14 technologies ensuring that at least 12 overlap to drive Couch Oil & Gas success rates.
Initial detection from a large prospect area includes studying the earth’s electromagnetic characteristics from the air as well as the earth’s topography – elevation changes and relief characteristics as well as vegetation. The technology coordination in this phase ensure Couch Oil & Gas invests capital and valuable geology and engineering expertise in only those areas of interest most likely to bear commercial reserves of oil and gas.

Once an area of interest has been identified Couch goes to work detecting and identifying structures and horizons and their depths where oil and gas reserves may exist. Two dimensional (2D) seismic mapping confirms the existence of formations worthy of additional consideration. Sound from charges detonated at the surface is received by a series of microphones or jugs spaced over the prospect after it bounces off subsurface formations of varying density yielding a two dimensional map of dense subsurface structures that may produce oil and gas.
The existence of the formations in an area of interest is the genesis for more refinement in the discovery process and three-dimensional (3D) seismic analysis is completed to identify the sub-surface topography of the formations confirmed with 2D mapping in the previous stage. At this juncture Couch Oil & Gas 44 years of oil and gas investing and 19 years of dedicated operation comes to the fore to identify the ideal locations to spud their next well(s).
Once drilling commences Couch Oil & Gas technical team is engaged in the process ensuring every potential productive horizon is examined and analyzed to maximize the return on invest from each well. Mud log analysis of drilling fluids circulated through the well offers insight into the structure the drill is penetrating and what type and quality of hydrocarbons are prevalent in the formations penetrated. This information is used to highlight zones at and depths worthy of additional examination.
When total depth (TD) of a well is reached Couch engineers and geologists begin studying the length of the well bore with Gamma Ray and Nuclear log plotting. The rays are introduced into the formations identified via Mud Logging. These logs show the porosity (ability to hold hydrocarbons) and permeability (ability of hydrocarbons to move through) of each prospective horizon and from there Couch Oil & Gas completes those horizons that are most productive ensuring maximum rate of return on investment.
The technology discussed herein is not all inclusive of the more than dozen technologies Couch Oil & Gas employs at every stage of energy exploration and production, but does highlight the step-by-step integration of technology to ensure the highest possible success rate on wells drilled and maximize the immediate economic return on those successful wells.
